We offer a comprehensive range of drawer slides with weight capacities from 35kg up to 227kg, in zinc-plated aluminium and stainless steel, with both locking and non-locking options. A common question we receive is how to choose between regular and heavy-duty slides.
The decision isn't always straightforward. This guide will outline the key differences to help you select the best slide for your project.
Heavy-Duty Drawer Slides: Built for Extreme Loads
The primary advantage of our heavy-duty slides is their exceptional weight capacity, making them ideal for heavy toolboxes, industrial equipment storage, modular drawers, and under-tray systems. They are a popular choice for applications in camper trailers, caravans, and canopies.
Key Features:
-
Maximum weight capacity: 227kg
-
Available lengths: 356mm to 2007mm
-
Locking options: Available in both locking and non-locking formats.
-
Durability: Engineered for maximum strength and long-term reliability.
-
Full extension: Opens completely for full access to drawer contents.
Important Consideration: It's crucial to note that the maximum weight capacity is directly affected by the slide length. While available up to 2007mm, slides at this extreme length have a reduced capacity of 50kg. To achieve the full 227kg rating, the maximum extension is 762mm.
Regular Drawer Slides: Versatility for Lighter Applications
Our regular-duty slides are available in 35kg, 45kg, 60kg, and 125kg capacities. The 35kg-60kg models are suited for light-duty projects, while the 125kg slide is designed for medium-duty applications. Most are available in locking and non-locking versions.
Key Features by Capacity:
-
35kg: Full extensions from 250mm to 500mm. (Capacity reduces to 30kg for 550mm/600mm extensions).
-
45kg: Full extensions from 250mm to 700mm with no weight reduction.
-
60kg: Full extensions from 350mm to 800mm. (Capacity reduces on extensions longer than 550mm).
-
125kg (Medium-Duty): Full extensions from 356mm to 1016mm. (Capacity gradually reduces from 110kg to 50kg as the extension length increases).
Example: If you need an 800mm extension with a 35kg capacity, the 60kg slide would be the correct choice. Your decision must balance both the required extension and the weight capacity.
Application Guide: When to Use Each Type
Choose a heavy-duty slide if your load exceeds 125kg or if you require an extension longer than 1016mm (the maximum for our 125kg slides).
Sometimes, both a medium-duty and a heavy-duty slide may technically fit your specifications. For instance, a 500mm extension with a 125kg capacity could be met by both the 125kg and 227kg models. In such cases, consider the operating environment:
-
Choose Heavy-Duty for harsh conditions: outdoor use, repetitive heavy cycling, coastal (salty) environments, or dusty industrial settings. Their robust construction offers superior durability and a longer lifespan under stress.
-
Choose Regular or Medium-Duty for protected, indoor household applications or situations where the drawer will see infrequent use.
Why Aren't Heavy-Duty Slides Disconnectable?
Due to the extreme 227kg weight capacity, our heavy-duty slides do not feature a disconnectable mechanism for safety reasons. Installation requires opening the slide to its full extension, fitting the accessible mounting points, and then carefully closing the slide to reveal the remaining points through a window in the track.
For applications requiring a disconnectable feature, please select from our 35kg, 60kg, or 125kg options.
